Randy Orton World Champion?

Randy Orton is set to square off against three other competitors on Sunday over the World Heavyweight Championship at Over the Limit. Orton will be facing Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio and Chris Jericho in a fatal-four-way match, which should see all four men take themselves to the limit to become champion.

Even though Orton and Jericho are both veterans in WWE compared to the newer Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio, they will still be trying just as hard to win the match. But one person who does not need the win is Randy Orton.

Orton winning the title would certainly be great for business, as he is very popular and one of WWE's best in-ring performers, but he has reached a point in his career where any titles he wins are simply icing on the cake.

Despite Orton not being as old as most wrestlers who have been on the roster as long as he has, he is still one of the more established wrestlers in the whole company. He has held numerous WWE and World titles over his decade-long run, and he has beaten just about every big name in this business.

He has reached a point where he is starting to give back to the business rather than fight to keep his spot at the top, similar to how Shawn Michaels was during the last few years of his career.

Even with a long career still ahead of him, Orton has become one of those guys who does not need a belt to be viewed as one of the top guys in the company, and that is why we have not seen him with a title in quite some time.

He is using his spot in the company to put others over to ensure that WWE has main event talent for years to come. Orton helped push CM Punk to the top of WWE with their feud, and he was doing the same thing with Wade Barrett before the unfortunate injury Barrett suffered. Orton has also given up wins to other rising stars like Dolph Ziggler and Daniel Bryan in recent months. Even if those wins were not always clean, they were still wins.

I have great respect for Orton because he understands the point he has reached in his career and he is being a team player by not forcing the company to keep a title on him like some wrestlers have been known to do in the past (ex John Cena).

WWE knows that Orton can bring credibility to any feud he is in and that they can always put the title back on him if they need a boost of star power in the title picture.

I do not see Orton never holding the title again, but I also don't see him being one of those guys who is always in the title picture anymore. I will be rooting for Orton to win on Sunday, but out of the four men in the match, he is probably in the least need of a win to boost his standing in the company right now.

Sheamus and Del Rio are still working their way up the WWE ladder even though both have WWE and World title experience, and giving the win to one of them would help more than giving the win to Jericho or Orton.

Actually of all four men, the only one who has never held the World Championship is Alberto Del Rio. So I wouldn't be surprised if they gave it to him, it would make the most sense. Still, it would be great to see Orton or Jericho get another run as World Champion. But as far as Orton goes, I think he should be going after other titles because he is in my opinion the franchise of the WWE and should have the records to prove it. Edge retried with more titles than just about anyone and Orton should be on par with him. Orton has never held the United States Championship, and he should find a partner and go for the Tag-Team Championships because he has been a loner for far too long. I think its great that he is a team player and is using his popularity to put over up and coming talent, but at the same time he should give the fans what they want as well... and that is Randy Orton as Champion!

Side-Note: When Randy Orton won his first World Championship, it was from Chris Benoit and it was at SummerSlam in Toronto... and I was there in person cheering him on! I actually wanted to buy an Evolution t-shirt at the event, but he was so popular that night that they sold out at every booth before I could get one.
