BRUTUS BEEFCAKE - FAQ

Is he Hulk Hogan's brother?
No. They are just good friends. They started in the wrestling business together and have been very good friends since.

What names had he used?
"Dizzy" Ed Boulder, Brutus Beefcake, Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake, Furface, Brother Bruti, The Butcher, The Man With No Name, The Man With No Face, The Zodiac, The Clipmaster, The Booty Man, The Disciple, and Brute Force.

What happened to his face?
Two weeks before Summerslam 1990 Brutus Beefcake, wrestler Brian Blair, and a couple other friends were parasailing on Brown Lake, in Lutz, Flordia. The accident happened while a woman friend was parasailing. Brutus was 30 yards in front of her and was to hold the boat back until the air caught the parasail and lifted the woman into the air. Brutus was facing the boat and thought the woman had enough elevation to clear him but she did not and when Brutus turned around to see what was happening the woman flew into Brutus' face with her knees. The result was a shattered jaw, nose, and other facial bones. His palate also collapsed. He need a total facial reconstructive surgery which is very dangerous. The operation took 8 and a half hours in which doctors cut Brutus from ear to ear and peeled back the skin on his skull. They then used the cranial bone to reconstruct the face by positioning all the other bones around the nose. They also had to insert 8 steel plates, 40 screws, and more than 100 staples. The surgery was a success but Brutus would be in recovery for a long time and never did reach the same success he did before the accident.

What was Furface?
In 1991 Brutus made a short WWF return as "Furface". A heel would be having a match against a jobber and Brutus would run out in a fur mask and Indian type vest and would run into the ring and headbutt the heel out of the ring. "Furface" was in the WWF for about a month but Brutus' face wasn't fully healed so they dropped the gimmick instead of risking a serious injury.

If your interested the actual name for the gimmick was suppose to be The Avenger or The Mariner but the storyline was dropped so fast that the name was never actually revealed and fans have just always called him Furface since.

Why did he turn on Hulk Hogan in 1994?
The wrestler who was suppose to be the mask man that attacked Hogan was Curt Hennig. This would then set up a reunion between Hennig and Ric Flair to feud with Hogan and Brutus.

The Bootyman (WCW)
With Kimberly Page
By the time the storyline was suppose to play out WCW could not reach a deal with Hennig however. Hennig was collecting money from an insurance policy and wanted alot of money to return and then lose the policy. WCW then wanted the mask man to be Ric Flair and another Flair/Hogan match could take place with Flair winning but Hogan refused to lose the world title. Hogan then suggested the mask man angle using Brutus instead. WCW agreed and Brutus turned heel and attacked Hogan.

Why was Brutus taken off the Summerslam 1988 card?
Brutus was originally suppose to win the Intercontinental title from Honky Tonk Man at Summerslam. Brutus and Honky Tonk had been feuding for almost a year and everytime they fought Honky Tonk somehow would walk away the winner. At Summerslam Brutus would finally get his long waited victory. However 3 weeks before the event "The Outlaw" Ron Bass viciously attacked Brutus on WWF television. Brutus ended up being out for 4 weeks missing Summerslam.

The real decision Brutus was written out was a made by WWF officals. Brutus was heavily pushed by the WWF after his face turn in early 1987 and thought Brutus didn't quite live up to the hype. WWF felt Ultimate Warrior was way over more with the fans and decided to have him win the belt instead.

Brutus was scheduled again to win the Intercontinental title at Summerslam 1990 but suffered a parasailing accident a few weeks before as highlighted before above.
