When Triple H was first rising to the top of the WWF it was when he was Hunter Hearst Helmsley. He had a female bodyguard named Chyna and won the Intercontinental Championship and the King Of The Ring.
Then Triple H joined forces with The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels to form Degeneration X. During this time Shawn was the WWF Champion and Triple H became the European Champion.
When Shawn left the WWF due to a back injury someone needed to fill his spot. Stone Cold Steve Austin had taken over as the WWF Champion and the top star in the company. The Rock was becoming the fastest rising star in the company and would headline Wrestlemania with Austin. But it was at that same Wrestlemania that Triple H turned his back on what was left of Degeneration X (which he had been carrying on without Shawn) and sold out just as The Rock had done in order to get that push into the main event picture.
However, I think most people will agree with me that Triple H did not get over with the fans as a main event player until he married the daughter of Vince McMahon. This was the defining moment of his career and launched him to the top. He needed that something to put him over the top, and it was this storyline that did it. The real hook was when Stephannie McMahon turned on her own father and took Triple H's side in their fight. It was a plan all along and they were going to take over the company. When they did, they refereed to this time as "The McMahon-Helmsley Era" and it was a great point in wrestling.
The funny part is, what no one really knew was that these two were actually dating. Triple H was still with his girlfriend Chyna, and ironically the whole storyline was originally her idea. But while they were pretending to be married Triple H and Stephanie actually hit it off. Eventually Chyna found out. She tried to go after Stephanie. It cost her a job in the WWF and a career in wrestling. A lot of the wrestlers in the back resented Triple H for "sleeping his way to the top" or whatever you want to call it. But he went on to marry the bosses daughter and became the biggest star in the company.
By the time Shawn Michaels made his return only a few years later, Triple H had taken over the company. He was the Champion, and the biggest star and called all the shots. Triple H main-evented every Wrestlemania, won everything, defeated everyone, dominated the whole company. Triple H became so big, the greatest wrestler of all time, Ric Flair, began walking him to the ring, holding the ropes for him, and telling the world that Triple H was now the best!
Together Triple H and Ric Flair started Evolution, which was basically Triple H hand-picking who would be the next young stars that would rise up in the company, what would become his company. Triple H personally chose and modeled Randy Orton and Dave Batista to take over for him and be the top stars in the WWE for years to come.
Everyone joked about it but I don't think anyone really thought it would happen, but Triple H married Stephanie and took over the world of professional wrestling. Honestly, who is more powerful than Triple H? He can put himself in any match, in any main event against anyone. He will end The Undertaker's Wrestlemania Steak if he wants to. He could be the next WWE Champion yet again if he decides he wants the belt. He tries to act like he is interested in doing what is best for business, but that's never been the case. His actions speak much louder than his words. Triple H has always done what is best for himself. Hung onto the spotlight, put himself in a main event and won championships, and he didn't care what anybody thought.
Somehow Triple H put himself in a position to inherit the thrown! Vince has been the reigning king since he took over the WWWF from his father in the 1980s and changed the company to the WWF, signed Hulk Hogan and started the very first Wrestlemania. Now his time is coming to an end, and Vince must pass down the torch to business he revolutionized and a company he made into a million dollar and now billion dollar corporation. The rightful heir to the thrown should be his son Shane McMahon. Yet where is Shane? He hasn't been seen in the company in years. And other than running a few matches and being by his father's side, Shane has never really run anything. Meanwhile, his sister has been the General Manager of Smackdown and married one of the biggest stars in the company who after marrying her became the biggest star of all time.
