Poll Closed: King Of The Ring... Triple H

So the poll is closed. The results are in. The greatest King Of The Ring is officially Triple H, which I must say I was surprised to see. When I created this poll I assumed Stone Cold Steve Austin would win, but I was hoping Bret Hart might have a chance. I did not expect Triple H to be the winner. But you can't argue with the results.

3rd place (Tied): Bret Hart, Edge, and Brock Lesnar
2nd place: Stone Cold Steve Austin
1st pace: Triple H

Bret Hart 1993 - My Choice Lex Luger
Owen Hart 1994 - My Choice Razor Ramon
Mabel 1995 - Undertaker, Lex Luger, and Shawn Micheals were in it!
Steve Austin 1996 - Ultimate Warrior was in this one lol
Triple H 1997 - Mankind was his only competition!
Ken Shamrock 1998 - Everyone thinks The Rock won, but he didn't!
Billy Gunn (Mr. Ass) 1999 - Kane & Big Show were in it...
I thought Chyna should have won and become the first Queen Of The Ring!

Kurt Angle 2000 - I thought it should have come down to Jericho & Benoit...
and Jericho should have won!
Edge 2001 - first time ever, previous winner Kurt Angle faced Edge in the Finals!
I thought The Hardyz in one Semi-Final, Edge & Christian in the other...
Winners: Jeff Hardy & Edge in the finals... Edge winner!
Brock Lesner 2002 - This one was great, Brock vs RVD greatest Final ever!
I couldn't find pictures of a few of them with their crowns on. Edge was the only one I know of that took a trophy instead of a crown. I know Triple H refused to wear his lol. What is Edge's trophy supposed to be? I would have assumed Stanley Cup, but it looks different, maybe the Grey Cup? Mable received a King Of The Ring Championship Belt, I think Billy Gunn maybe have received the same thing. For the record, there were other Kings Of The Ring before this, but that was before it was a PPV event. A King could be crowned just by defeating the former King. They also held tournaments, similar to what they do on Raw and Smackdown each year now.

Of the old Kings, I would give honorable mention to the legendary Harley Race. When he came to the WWF Hulk Hogan was already the Champions so they made him a King instead. I remember as a kid I was very excited when Hacksaw Jim Duggon became the new King. Later The Macho Man Randy Savage won and became The Macho King Randy Savage. Too bad his Queen at the time was Sherri instead of Elizabeth. Miss Elizabeth should have been the first Queen of the World Wrestling Federation.

In the post PPV era, honorable mention to Booker T who became King Booker with a bad fake English accent and all. Not much mention to William Regal. I think the King Of The Ring only became known again this past year when Sheamus won it. Though his crown with the horns was weird.

I think the King Of The Ring is a strange award. It never goes to the top superstar in the company, it always goes to a random wrestler you wouldn't expect. John Cena, Randy Orton, CM Punk, Chris Jericho, Rob Van Dam, these guys have never won the King Of The Ring. In the old school days, Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior, Lex Luger, Brutus The Barber Beefcake, Jake The Snake Roberts, and so many others never won. The King has always been a mid-card wrestler. Some have gone on to became main-eventers later in the career, but none were ever a big star at the time. I think the WWE should have a Wrestelmania 4 style tournament as a PPV today and have the top 8 wrestlers in the company compete and the winner becomes King Of The Ring and would become the #1 contender... maybe just like Money In The Bank, the King could cash it in any time, or at the next PPV. It should be a major accomplishment. Not a joke.
