Should Have Been! |
65% of you agreed with me that YES Chris Benoit should be in the WWE Hall Of Fame. I can obviously understand the reason why he is not and why some of you would have voted no. What he did was horrible and unforgivable. I am also not going to go into great detail about those events or the different theories or causes for his actions. All I want to discuss here is the wrestling career of one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, a fact that can not be argued.
Other wrestlers, athletes, and celebrities have had problems, committed crimes, been in prison, and their careers have not been destroyed. All I am saying is that for the sake of his fans, he should be inducted into the Hall Of Fame. His fans do not want his wrestling career to be erased as it has been just because of how his personal life ended.

Eddie Guerrero
WWE Hall Of Fame |
Hulk Hogan discussed in his last book how close he came to committing suicide after his wife left him. If he had would his entire career, all of Hulkamania and basically all of wrestling in the WWF and 1980s been erased? Would he have been removed from the Hall Of Fame? No, they would have separated the two. They would say it is horrible what happened, but that doesn't change what a great career he had. There is also a lot of controversy right now with some wrestlers even asking to be removed from the Hall Of Fame because Abdulah The Butcher was inducted. Well I think they should ask current Hall Of Fame wrestlers if any of them would object to being in the same group as Chris Benoit. I think he has had a better career than almost anyone in there and deserves his spot more than any of them.

Among other accolades, Benoit is a two-time world champion: a one-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion, one-time World Heavyweight Champion (tied for third longest reign in history). Both of his world title reigns were represented by the Big Gold Belt: Benoit is one of four men to have held the Big Gold Belt in both WCW and WWE, alongside Bill Goldberg, Booker T and Big Show. He is also a record-tying five-time WCW/WWE United States Champion, having held the championship twice in WCW, and three times in WWE. The twelfth WWE Triple Crown Champion and seventh WCW Triple Crown Champion, he is the second of four men in history to achieve both the WWF and WCW Triple Crown Championships.
In addition to championships, Benoit won the 2004 Royal Rumble match, joining Shawn Michaels as one of two men to win the match as the number one entrant. Described by WWE as "a favorite among WWE fans for his unbelievable athleticism and wrestling ability", Benoit was widely regarded as one of the most popular, respected, and gifted technical wrestlers in history.

Chris Benoit murdered his wife and son on June 22, 2007 and subsequently hanged himself on June 24, 2007. Since Benoit's suicide, numerous explanations for his actions have been proposed, including concussions, steroid abuse, and a failing marriage. Benoit last performed for WWE on their ECW brand. Paul Heyman, head of the original ECW promotion, intended to book Benoit to win the ECW World Heavyweight Championship in 1995 but did not renew his United States Work Visa in time; twelve years later, Benoit was booked by WWE to win the title in one of three world championship matches at pay-per-view event Vengeance: Night of Champions, which again did not come to fruition due to his death that night
I think instead of erasing his great career and focusing on his tragic end, we need to forget his tragic end and remember his legendary career!
Forgetting his tragic end would require forgetting about Nancy and Daniel. You might as well advocate spitting on their graves, too.
