Will CM Punk Return To The WWE?

CM Punk walked out and basically quit the WWE after the Royal Rumble. I don't blame him, I almost stopped watching the WWE after the Royal Rumble. At the time the two hottest stars in the wrestling world were CM Punk and Daniel Bryan. Clearly these two should have been the main event for Wrestlemania that year. But Triple H was now in charge of the WWE and he wanted to put his best friends Randy Orton and Dave Batista in thte main event instead. First he gave Orton the belt, then he had Batista win the Royal Rumble. Bryan wasn't even in the Rumble match, and Punk basically just laid down in the corners and did nothing the entire match. I really couldn't understand what was the point of that. Then it made sense when Punk quit. Obviously he was refusing to be any part of the crap that Triple H was doing.

After Punk left the WWE came to their senses somewhat at least temorarily and put Bryan in the main event of Wrestlemania and made him the new champion. But due to a neck injury that was short lived. And instead of turning to the other top star in the world CM Punk, the WWE had nothing. Batista had quit after not being given the championship that Triple H promised him. Orton had already failed as the champion. The last thing anyone wanted to see was John Cena as champion again. So what could Triple H do?

He actually did nothing. Daniel Bryan was home recovering with the belt and the WWE had no champion. When they finally stripped him of the title they had a ladder match and guess who won... John Cena. What a joke. I know they were setting up Cena versus Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. I'm sure they were planning that match all along. But its already been done, and they had nothing for months leading up to this which could have been more exciting if they still had CM Punk.

If Bryan was out with an injury Punk could have taken over again. They should have been together in the main event of Wrestlemania. Then if Bryan was unable to keep going as champion they could have went back to Punk. Punk could have been fueding with the Authority this whole time. Punk could have had matches with Orton, Batista, Kane, and even Triple H. That would have been some great TV ratings and PPV buys. But the WWE missed out because they drove him away at the Rumble. Instead, there was no championship match at Payback. There was the ladder match that Cena won at Money In The Bank. And most recently, a fatal fourway at Battleground that Cena won yet again. Hopefully Lesnar finally gets the belt at SummerSlam!

But think of the epic fued between Punk and Lesnar they could be having. After 3 months of Punk as champion after 2 months of Bryan, it would be Lesnar's turn now. Punk already had a fued going with Lesnar after he quit being a 'Heyman Guy' and Lesnar defeated him. And of course, throw in the fact that now Lesnar can say that he accomplished what Punk failed to do... end the Undertaker's streak! That is an epic build up. Punk could drop the belt to Lesnar and they could build up some rematches etc. and when its time for Brock Lesnar to take another 6 months off because he is exhastued from his 1 month of competing, Punk could take over again be winning the belt back.

But that's not the case. Punk left. And Cena is the champion yet again. Hopefully that will be over at SummerSlam. This whole time I'm sure we have all been hoping for the exact same thing... Punk's return!

That never happened. And most recently, Punk's profile was removed for the WWE roster on their website. Which typically means their contract expired or they were fired. In Punk's case, after sitting out the last 6 months of his contract, he is now recieved his freedom. There are still some issues remaining though and what will happen next is unclear.

First, Punk is not technically considered a free agent. While he is no longer under contract to the WWE, he can't actually go wrestle for any other promotion until he fulfills the last 6 months of his contract. A similar sitution occured when Brock Lesnar left after Wrestlemania 20. He went the play football and when that failed he wanted to wrestle in Japan but still owed the WWE the remaining time on his contract which is why there was a lawsuit.

Second, even if Punk was free to go anywhere else, that really just means TNA or Ring Of Honour. But Punk hasn't seemed to show any interest in wrestling anywhere at all. He has expressed no interest in wrestling anymore. He claims too many injuries, and being burnt out. But does that mean he needs a break, some time off to rest, or does that mean he has quit forever? I hope he is just resting and healing and will be back better than every, hopefully soon. However, the statements he has been making suggest that there won't be any return.

Third, CM Punk has been with AJ for quite some time. And when she left the WWE after dropping the Divas belt to Paige the night after Wrestlemania it seemed like she was taking CM Punk's side over the WWE, and if AJ was quitting too that seemed to suggest that Punk was never coming back. In that case the WWE was losing its top star as well as its top Diva all at once. But then AJ shocked everyone by returning to the WWE and regaining her Divas championship from Paige. With AJ back does that mean that CM Punk is going to return as well? Or is Punk just not standing in the way of his partner's career? It seems odd that after AJ made her return and everyone was expecting Punk to do the same, that is when the WWE decided to remove his profile from their website! Basically, that tells me that the WWE was able to convince AJ to come back, but Punk is gone for good.

I also can't help but think that if Punk was going to return, and the WWE was going to bring him back, they would have done it by now. When Bryan was out with an injury and had to surrender the title, Punk should have been brought back to win the belt in the ladder match. The fact that not only has he been gone too long but that his profile was now removed after leaving it up for the past 6 months tells me its over now.

The most shocking thing that I have read on the Punk situation recently was that Punk actually got along great with Vince, so its apparently Triple H that is the problem. Apparently Vince and Punk are both insomniacs and they would often call each other at 4am and discuss business plans. So Punk had a great run while Vince was around, but now that Triple H is running the show with guys like Orton and Batista, Punk is sitting at home.

Just imagine Punk as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, having fueds with Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, and Rob Van Dam! It could be possible if Triple H and the WWE wanted to make it happen.
