Championship Redemption

Nothing gets a Superstar over an abrupt loss of championship gold like reclaiming it once again. The only trouble with that plan is that the encore reign is not a foregone conclusion. It’s a painful lesson that both Kane and Dolph Ziggler knew all too well as they prepared to compete in their respective championship clashes at No Way Out.

For both The Big Red Monster and The Showoff, their inaugural World Title reigns likely feel like a lifetime ago as well as bittersweet. It was 14 years ago this month that Kane seized the WWE Championship from WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, only to lose it back to The Texas Rattlesnake 24 hours later. Ziggler, on the other hand, was awarded the vacant World Heavyweight Title more than 16 months ago on SmackDown and lost it less than 12 minutes later to WWE Hall of Famer Edge.

Although both challengers have captured other illustrious titles since then, each of them have waited a long time for their impending redemption of the coveted title they lost so long ago.

I really wanted to see each of them win their matches and the titles. I think they have each earned it. But the WWE never seems to give the fans what they want anymore. Everyone in the crowd was chanting Ziggler during the opening match, but the WWE wants Triple H's workout buddy to stay World Champion for a very long time. And for whatever reason, despite his talent and popularity, Kane has never been given a real WWE Championship reign. Its too bad.
